by Otherwise - Gupta word might be derived from gupt. Sharma word might be derived from Sharm.
The Gotra is original surname derived from our RISHI VANSHAJs. Later we are fame by surnames, so accepted/ adopted.

ReplyDeleteThere are mainly 82 Gotras in Maheshwari Samaj - remaining are called Khanp . DHUPAR is surname that is not Gotra. Surnames are derived from/ based upon Business or place or awarded names. Like Bhandari surname is not gotra. Bhandari's Gotra is Kaushik, Bhadada or Bidadas are Gajansh, Kabras are Balans likewise

What is your family surname ? accordingly gotra can be derived. My surname is Bhandari - Gotra for Bhandari is kaushik, likewise. moreover mataji can be known as per surname only.

ReplyDeleteMy name is Varun Sodhani and my gotra is Sodhans and kuldevi is Jheen mata. I wanted to know if Maheshwaris can marry Agrawals and Khandelwals or other Vaishya jatis without being outcasted. Our marriage laws obviously do not allow to marry outside Vaishya varna but can we marry outside Maheshwari caste?
